The Corry Boys Basketball Team faced off against the talented Warren Dragons for the third time this season. After we found out that we earned the 6th seed in the 4A Bracket on Sunday, we went to work trying to figure out some new ways to try and slow down the dragons. Defensively we knew we had to get back in transition, and now allow them to play the fast paced game that they love to play.    We decided that we would play a 1/3/1 defense, in which we were able to slow them down. they had 35 points at the half, and that was 5 points more than what they had at the end of the first quarter the game before. To change things up, we started Landon Deane and put him at the top of the 1/3/1 with his length and athleticism. He did a great job and also gave us another scoring option. We were down 8-11 at the end of the first with about 15 seconds to go and they nailed a corner 3 point shot to go up 8-14.    In the previous two games we played against Warren we allowed 5 guys to get into double figures scoring, and we wanted to eliminate that and only have a few. We did that tonight only allowing 3 guys. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for us.    Offensively, we wanted to slow the game down. We wanted to take our time and milk the clock a little bit. We did that, but we did have a concern and that was taking care of the ball. We wanted to milk the clock, but ensure that we would be able to get a shot up everytime down the court. In the first quarter we had 7+ turnovers and still was in the game. Taking care of the ball was our biggest issue all year long against great teams. The games that we lost (Girard, GM, Franklin, Oil City, Warren, and one game versus CASH) we couldn't control the ball offensively. These are all against great teams, and one loss versus CASH that we all wish we could have back. Not taking anything away from CASH they deserved that win, and played better than us that game BUT in our eyes it is not one we should have lost.    Leading the way offensively tonight and the season was Markus Lambert. Markus finished his senior season off in style with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Based on the records I have accumulated in the last 9 years, Markus scored 439 points this year, which puts him second all time in scoring for a season behind Brandon Mitchell who had 609 points in 2001-2002. Markus really did a nice job scoring the basketball this season, and proved to be one of the top 10 scorers in D10. Markus Finished 8th in Corry History with 890 career points.    Rylan Smith finished the night with 6 points, but had an outstanding Corry Boys Basketball Career. He finished 358 points on the season, and is the 5th highest leading scorer in school history with 1,048 points. Not only did Rylan Score the ball well, but he led the team in every other category besides scoring and charges taken. He led the team in Assists (4.6), Rebounding (5.1), Steals (2.6), & Deflections (60).    There is no doubt that if we didn't have these two on the court we would not be the team we were this year. They both made huge impacts to the team, and enabled us to compete at a high level this season.   Other scorers tonight were: Landon Deane with 7 points, Kamdyn Moon with 6 points, Nick Scouten with 6 points, Cameron Ricketts with 2 points, and Jack Albers with 2 points.    Senior, Tavon Kornikoski made huge steps this year. He was very dependable on defense and was our team's best source of communication. He knows the game well, and was able to keep us all on the same page on the court.    Senior, Jack Albers overcame some struggles early in the season with his health and was able to get some decent minutes during the season. I am proud of him for sticking things out and playing hard when it was his turn to get in the game.    When you see these seniors out and about, be sure to congratulate them on a great Corry Boys Basketball Career. They will truly be missed wearing the orange and black!    For the underclassmen:    Karson Chamberlin: He is the energy that every team wants to have on the court. He goes 110% percent and gives it all he has. At times we were able to see his offense come to life, but this year he made his biggest impact on the defensive side. He had close to 20+ offensive charges taken, which would be a record the nine years I have been coaching. His willingness to get on the ground and fight for every loose ball is by far the best on the team. We look forward to seeing him grow, and be even better this coming year.    Kamdyn Moon: He showed everyone what he is about. He ended the season with 72 three point field goals made, which landed him within the top 3 in D10. He averaged 12 points a game, and his defense and playmaking ability improved as the season went on. I am excited to see what he can do in the next couple of years. He knows the following seasons will be much more difficult to get open, but he will also continue to improve and expand his game.   Cameron Ricketts: He came off the bench for me as the 6th man for the majority of the year this year. He is a true team player. He knew a lot of his minutes were based off of matchups. He took the minutes he had earned and made the most of them. He is right where he needs to be defensively, and we hope that he can improve his offensive side of the game in the off-season!    Landon Deane, Nick Scouten, and Keaton Frisina are other notable underclassmen that earned some important varsity minutes this season. These guys were put into games that had high intensity and had a lot on the line. I like the way they responded and I hope they continue to improve their game, and are ready to play some big minutes in years to come.    Other notable underclassmen I look forward to seeing improve this off season is Parker Trask and Landon Atha. They both have a ton of potential and love the game of basketball. They will work extremely hard, and will see a lot of varsity time this summer. As of right now, I see 8+ underclassmen that have a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see who rises to the occasion and puts themselves in a place to play varsity basketball next winter. Corry Boys Basketball looks bright.

We came into the game really working hard on our press breaker, in which at the beginning that was really the only thing we were really able to do half way decent. We looked down the floor and were getting some shots up, which was how we were able to score early. We had a tough time in every aspect of the game tonight. Our leading scorers were held to 5 and 2 points, so we were having a hard time scoring the basketball. Kamdyn moon was the only real bright spot offensively with 16 points, and 4 three point baskets. Getting his total up to 71. The record is 77 held by Logan Joncas his sophomore season. Unfortunately, if you were watching it looked like we gave up tonight, which is disappointing. We to have to gain some mental toughness and be ready for what’s in store for the playoffs.

Slow start but the beavers win the last home game of the season over the rockets.    After the first quarter we were down 9-13 and the beaver offense was struggling to get the lid off of the basket. In the second quarter Corry erupted scoring 21 points, leading the way was Rylan Smith with 8 points, and Markus Lambert with 7 points. This handed us an 8 point lead going into halftime.    During halftime we spoke about our shot selection. We were aware that the majority of our shots were open from the outside, but we were not hitting them. We needed to adjust and get some nice inside looks to start the half to gain some confidence back for our outside shot. We did just that. We set up some inside looks for Markus right away down low and he connected for our first 6 points, and then we were able to hit from the outside with Kamdyn Moon hitting 3 of his 5 three point shots in the third and Rylan connecting with one. During the third quarter we tied our season high with 25 points in a quarter.    In the second half we were able to get a 20 point lead, but this game was very identical to CASH at home. We would get nice leads and then we would let them back in the game. Kurshinski was a big reason why he finished with 22 points and the majority coming in the second half. Our pressure gave us multiple turnovers, but this area is a key point to some of our struggles as well, and we gave some right back.    Markus Lambert has had a great season so far for us. He is averaging around 20 points, and has scored the ball in so many different ways. He has been very consistent throughout games, which has helped our team out tremendously. He has really not only impressed us, but a lot of coaches we have played against. Rylan Smith was right behind him with 19 points tonight, and is averaging around 17 points per game on the season. He has been a consistent force, and he draws a lot of attention, which gives our teams really nice looks. He leads our team in every other category besides points. Kamdyn Moon put himself in an even better spot in D10 with 67 made threes on the year, which puts him in second or third after tonight. He is averaging 12 points and had 15 tonight. I am really proud of Kamdyn thus far, and I like the way he is playing ball. He is stepping up and I like seeing that out of him. He is very capable, and he is someone who is going to keep working hard to get better and better.    Karson got himself into some early foul trouble tonight, but he is the key to our success on the defensive side of the ball. He is always in the right spots, and is willing to do a lot of the gritty work. As of late he has really done a nice job offensively looking for his shot, which is something we need him to do. Tavon played a tough ball game tonight and has all year. He has made a huge jump from a year ago. Cameron Ricketts and Jack Albers came off the bench tonight and played a lot of minutes. Cameron is finding himself in the right spots and now getting some nice dump off looks and starting to convert more consistently. Jack came in firing today, and was aggressive. I enjoyed watching him play, and he got a lot of rebounds tonight.    Tonight was the last home game for the four seniors, but we are not done yet! We have Warren on Friday, and hopefully get into the playoffs and make a push.

The Corry Beavers ran into a tough Franklin Nights Team on Friday Night. They played a great overall game and were hard to keep up with. After the first quarter we were up 21-20, but our offense was answering them back and I knew it would be hard to maintain. Markus Lambert had a heck of a game with 27 points. He was consistent all game and worked the ball inside and out. Rylan Smith had 13 points and was able to hit a couple big shots. Kamdyn Moon had a pair of threes and Karson Chamberlin also knocked down a key three in the first quarter. Kudos to Franklin, who have many guys that can score. Wood torched us with 28 points and they had several other in double digits. We look forward to rebounding at home on Tuesday against Titusville. Tuesday is an Orange out sponsored The Corry Journal. We will also have Safe Journey at the game and will be bringing awareness to Teen Suicide Awareness.

Tonight I thought we came in and played incredibly hard for 3 solid quarters. The game was close the entire time, and both teams played with a ton of heart. We got beat in the rebounding category once again by Oil City. This would most likely be the reason why they came out with the victory, but we had ourselves right in the game, down by 3 with about 3 minutes left to go in the game.    Bringing the energy defensively in the first half specifically was Karson Chamberlin, who took two huge charge calls and erased 4 points off of the board. He led the team in steals with 2, came down with 6 big rebounds tonight.    Corry only scored 4 points in the 4th quarter and had 3/4 timely turnovers in a row, which ultimately sealed the deal for Oil City. We had 10 total turnovers, and I know at least 5 of them were committed in the 4th quarter.    Kamdyn Moon hit very timely shots the entire game I thought. He ended up with 14 points (4 of those being three point field goals) and was tied for game high with Markus Lambert who also had 14 points. Lambert also led us in the rebound category with 7.    Rylan had 7 points, 5 rebounds. Cameron Ricketts had 3 really nice buckets underneath.    As a whole I thought we really played hard, physical, and gave it all we had for 3 1/2 quarters. Costly mistakes in close games are what hurt us late in the game. We were also 5-5 in free throws going into the 4th quarter and went 0-3 after.    Friday Night we will be back at it at Franklin, in this incredibly talented region we are in.

The Corry Beavers did not get off the bus ready to play against the Eagles on Friday Night. After multiple practices trying to get better with pressure and our press break we continued to have trouble in the front court. We weren't aggressive trying to get down the court in the pressure and we were pretty hesitant trying not to make mistakes. Being hesitant led to more trouble.    Defensively we did not stay in front of our guys and our effort level on that side of the ball was not where it normally is. The brand of basketball that we have been playing all season just was not there, and it has left us a little salty. This was a game we should never lose.     In order to get over this hump, we need to all be better and realize that every time we step on the court we need to be ready to play basketball at the highest level possible. Coming into the game I was telling the guys that we can't look at the first game and predict what is going to happen. I felt like we did that, and it hurt us tonight.    At the 3:45 mark in the 4th quarter Rylan picked up his 5th foul and Nick Scouten came into the game and played solid for us. As one of our top scorers came out of the game, we had to put another scorer in the game and I thought he responded very well. He did not come in hesitant and played solid while he was in the game.    Rylan Smith had a memorable night, as he eclipsed the 1000 point mark in the second half. Rylan is now the 6th boys basketball player in school history to reach the 1000 point mark. He is a very special player and he has earned every point he has scored on the court. He is the first player under Coach Bailey to start since being a freshman (4 years). He has come to nearly every off season event that we have had and has taken a lot of time on his own to be the best that he can be, and that is what it takes to be a high caliber player. I am very proud of him and couldn't be more happy for him.    It is now time to get back to work at practice these next few days and get over this funk we are in. We play Oil City on Tuesday, and we need to come out ready to play.    Rylan Smith led all scorers with 19 points, Markus Lambert with 15, Kamdyn Moon with 9 points.

The Corry Boys Basketball Team faced a tough Warren Dragon Team on Tuesday. Warren came out in a full court 1/2/2 pressure defense and took it to us tonight. We knew what was coming at us tonight and knew that was going to be the difference maker in the game. We came out and had a hard time with it all night long. They rarely had to get into a half court man because they were able to cause problems before that. It all comes down to on floor decision making, getting the ball down the floor with nice quick passes to keep that defense moving and trying to stay off the sideline as much as possible. We had trouble all the way around tonight.    Warren had 5 guys in double figures, which is very normal for them. You never see one guy going off for 30. They distribute well, and get a ton of transition opportunities. Not only do they get the transition opportunities off the press, but they push the ball no matter what the situation is (Missed Shots/Made Shots) and they are very successful doing it.    During halftime I had a lot to say, but I gave the guys three areas to focus on to get us back in the game. 1. Decision Making on front court pressure 2. Transition Defense 3. Rebounding. We had to get better in those areas in order to get back in the game, but we were not able to make it happen.    Markus Lambert led us in scoring tonight with 21, and was in foul trouble throughout the entire game. We really need to have him in the game at all times versus high caliber teams and tonight he unfortunately had to sit too much for us tonight. When he was able to get settled into the game he made a big difference on the offensive end.    Kamdyn Moon shot the ball extremely well tonight with 16 points, I thought he struggled a little bit making decisions when he had the ball in his hands other than when he was shooting.    Karson Chamberlin played gritty all night as always, and he hit a three in the first half along with 3 free throws finishing with 6 points. He was second tonight in rebounds with 4.    Rylan Smith did not get a lot of shots up tonight, and finished with 5 points. He led in three other categories with 5 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.    Tavon played hard after having a little setback this week in practice. I'm glad he got out there and played the way he did.    Deane and Ricketts came off the bench tonight and played hard. Deane had two points.    Jack Albers and Nick Scouten both came off the bench for us in the 4th quarter and had 5 points a piece. Landon Atha came in late and finished with 2 points.    Corry travels to CASH on Friday, which is never an easy game. We got to be locked in and ready to roll.

Corry gets the win due to four guys scoring in double figures and solid defense against one the top scorers in D10. Rylan Smith had 26, Markus Lambert had 18, Karson Chamberlin had 15, and Kamdyn Moon had 11. When we have this kind of scoring across the board we are going to be a hard team to beat, and we did a great job of distributing the ball. After the first quarter we were tied up, and I wasn’t very pleased with the way we were executing at either end of the floor. The next two quarters we really took off offensively and did a nice job. Our key to the game was stopping #2, Colon and we did a good job of that. Our goal was to keep him under 15 points and he had 12 due to great defense by Rylan Smith and the entire squad when they got switched off to him. We didn’t let him have an easy look tonight. Most impressively we didn’t allow him to make a three and he leads D10 in that category with 59 made threes. Smith led the way in every category tonight. He also had 5 assist, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. I’m most proud that every guy who stepped on the floor tonight stuck to the game plan and knew what they were to do. Every timeout we had and when guys off the bench, they were all in communication about knowing where #2 was and to not lose sight at anytime during the game. Markus and Rylan continue to impress as they have all season, but I’m really liking that underclassmen: Karson, Kamdyn, and Ricketts have carved out such an important role on our team. They have accepted the roles and done a nice job. Tavon, Jack, and Keaton all played great minutes for us tonight. Tavon got into some early foul trouble in the first quarter, but he got back in the groove the second half to help lead us down the stretch.

After getting down by 7-23 with about 3 minutes to go in the first quarter, the beavers decided it was time to play. Markus Lambert was our rock all night long scoring consistently for us to help us climb back into the game. Lambert really controlled the game tonight from start to finish. Not only did he lead on the court, but he did a really nice job during timeouts to keep guys in tune and motivated when times were pretty tough. Lambert finished the night with 26 points.  Once we started to switch everything we were able to defend better overall as a team. Offensively, we were struggling besides Markus, who had us on his back the first half.  Karson Chamberlin went 110% percent tonight. He worked extremely hard on the defensive side of the ball. He comes up with hustle play, after hustle play for us every night. The smallest guy on the floor was our leading rebounder with 6, had 2+ steals, and on top of all of that, he went 3-3 from beyond the arc. He made two really timely 3 point shots late in the game for us. He really brings all the energy for us. I love the way that kid plays basketball.  Cameron Ricketts got back to his solid defense. I spoke with him on Monday about being a little timid and not getting to the spots he normally does. I thought he responded well tonight. He got his first charge call of the year on the defensive side, got a few rebounds, and played hard. He also had 4 points for us.  Rylan is always playing hard, but tonight he struggled early. Only having four points going into the half, and did not take off until the fourth quarter when he scored 8 points. He hit three really timely shots to get us back in the game. Rylan also had 5 assists tonight.  Tavon played really good minutes and played well on the defensive side. He also got a bucket in the first half. Kamdyn Moon had 2 three point field goals to keep his streak alive. Everyone played hard tonight, and gave us all they had in the tank.  If you were at the game, you would say we just turned it on too late. Tonight Franklin was without their best player, but has still been winning all of their games. They are deep and a very good basketball team. They beat a great Warren Team without him as well. Tonight we gave them all they could handle at the end of the game. I can't say enough about the team's grit. When we were down double digits a couple times throughout the game. A lot of teams would pack it up for the night. Corry didn't do that, and we were able to get it within two points. I thought Franklin shot the crap out of the ball, and they had an answer for every run we had.

Lose: 37 - 53
Tonight the beavers traveled to Oil City and got beat by a score of 53-37. Many Corry fans who watched the game may believe that we had some very poor officiating, with a lot of tic tac calls and inconsistency throughout the entire game. I had a feeling this would be a game called just like we receive at CASH, they don’t allow you to play like we do at home. No matter the situation, I believe it is our job to adjust to what is going on in the game and play through it the best that we can. I believe my guys got frustrated early and it impacted our game on the offensive side of the ball. No matter how the game went, you can’t win games the way we played tonight. We got out rebounded badly, and we shot 26% from the floor. The hard thing to believe is that we shot 12% from inside the arc and 38% from beyond. Before the game and in our game plan meeting we spoke about us not going to get as many offensive looks because they really slow the game down. Once they got up by 10 points they did exactly that. I thought we should have applied more on ball pressure than we did tonight on specific guards. Rylan and Markus both had two fouls in the first quarter, which anyone knows if that happens, it isn’t great for our team. Offensively we just couldn’t get in stride tonight. We had a lot of bad turnovers, and that can’t happen against teams like Oil City. We only got up 34 shots on the night, we usually get up 60. It really wasn't due to there defense it was the amount of time they took off the clock on the offensive side. We had a couple runs, but we then would let them spread it out again to 10+ points. Defensively we allowed 53 points, and I always say if we keep it around 50 points against higher caliber teams we have a shot to win. Leading the way offensively tonight was Rylan with 19, next was Markus with 9, Kamdyn with 6, and Karson with 5. Rylan led the way in rebounds with 5 and Chamberlin with 4. On a positive note: Karson had 3 huge charge calls, that helped build some momentum and energy. We went 12-13 from the foul line, which is very good. Oil City played a better ball game tonight despite the officiating issues we faced. We have to put this behind us and get ready for Franklin. Meanwhile every one of us needs to realize we have to be better, and play a much more sound game.

The beavers took on CASH for the first region game of the year. Although it was not the best showing for us, we were able to keep the lead right from about half way through the first quarter and throughout the rest of the game.    The spark for us tonight in the first half was Karson Chamberlin, who came up huge with 15 points. We needed his energy tonight there was no doubt about it. He really helped us get out to a lead and come with big play after big play on both sides of the ball. Tonight as a team I thought we weren't all in tonight. We had silly mistakes throughout the game and just made us look quite sloppy at times.    Markus Lambert was our steady hand for us offensively, he scored doubles figures in each half and ended the night with 23 points. He had some very timely shots in each quarter that helped spread things out.  He only missed two shots on the night, and was very efficient from the floor.    Each half it felt like we would get to that comfortable lead and then we would have consecutive mistakes whether it was on defense or offense to get them back into the game.    Tonight, Kamdyn stole the show in the 4th quarter nailing 5 three point shots in the fourth quarter, and ending the game with 8 total three point baskets. The leader in that area would be Logan Joncas with 9 threes made in 2021-2022. At the end we really tried to feed him the ball, and he got several awesome looks, but they just didn't go in. With Moon's hot shooting he really helped seal the deal for us tonight, that I just thought was too close. Kamdyn ended up leading the way with 24 points on those 8 made three point field goals.    Rylan Smith led the way in three categories: 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Tonight was a night that he was not feeling it on the offensive end, but it was good to see him really dish the ball well tonight. When you struggle, find different ways to help the team. I thought he did that tonight.    While we always expect consistently from Rylan and Markus, sometimes you just may not have it in you offensively .. like tonight. What I really enjoyed seeing was Karson and Kamdyn step up and lead that way in that category. I think that says a lot for the team, and how we pick each other up.    Tavon and Cameron continue to work extremely hard on the defensive side of the ball and they each got a bucket tonight. Albers continues to get in the game and get a few nice looks each game.

Tonight the beavers went to Northwestern to take on the wildcats for the last non region contest of the year. At the end of the first quarter we got up 19-3 and never looked back. Tonight our pressure was too much for them. They had a hard time bringing the ball up the court, and when the wildcats were able to get a shot I thought they were contested most of the night. Creating a lot of that chaos was Karson who led us tonight with 5 steals,  Tonight we really didn’t shoot the ball that well from beyond the arc, but our defense was able to make up the difference to get some easier looks inside. We shot 40% going 26-65 from the floor. Tonight we shot 86% from the free throw line going 13-15, which is great to see the continues consistency. Offensively we had a very even scoring attack amongst several players. Leading the way was Rylan Smith with 16, Markus Lambert with 14, Kamdyn Moon with 11, Karson Chamberlin with 9, Jack Albers with 7, Tavon Kornikoski with 6, Brenden Lindstrom with 5, Frisina with 3, and Scouten with 3. Lambert had 8 rebounds Karson had 5 rebounds Leading the way in assist was Rylan with 6. The Corry Boys Basketball Team looks forward to competitive regional play going forward, starting off with CASH next Tuesday. The varsity squad completes its non-region schedule with a record of 10-2

Win: 65 - 58
An overtime victory against Fort LeBoeuf for the Jay Rougeau Charity Night couldn’t have been anymore exciting for the fans who came out to support the team and the great cause! Lambert was the guy tonight leading the way for the beavers with a season high 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Tonight was a battle, no team really led by more than 4 at anytime. We went back and forth all night long, which led to an overtime. In the second half Rylan had a great third quarter scoring 12 points, which helped us tremendously. Rylan finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals,  and 4 assists. He has been really consistent for us the last 4-5 games scoring around that 20 point mark. Right now Rylan and Markus have been quite the duo half way through the season, both averaging over 18 points per game. Karson Chamberlin led us in rebounds tonight with 8. He also had a big three in the first quarter when we were struggling a little bit. He ended the night with 5 points and 3 assists as well. Karson big time defensive plays were key all game. He took 3 charges, and could have got 2 more. These types of things are game changes and momentum boosts for us. In overtime, Markus got back to what he was doing in the first half and sealed the game up for us. He had 9 out of our 10 points. He started off overtime by hitting a big three, then went inside for a couple baskets, and then finished the game going 4-4 from the foul line. He had a pretty clutch overtime performance. Kamdyn Moon finished the night with 9 points with a couple threes, a layup, and a foul shot in overtime.  Tavon Kornikoski and Cameron Ricketts are really doing a nice job on the defensive end and sparking us with some clutch steals and stops. They have also made a few timely shots for us throughout the season. Tonight was a great win, but still a little messy at times. Specifically tonight at the end of the game turning over the ball of shooting contested shots when we didn’t need them. We had time on our side and the lead, so we wanted to waist clock and take high percentage shots. Learning moments for sure, and we have a lot of room to improve in areas like that. We again had 10 three point field goals, which is quite draining for the opposing team. We went 9-13 from the foul line and were missing foul shots early, but when it came down to the end of the game we knocked them down. We do not play again until next Wednesday at Northwestern.

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Harbor Creek High School

Win: 69 - 49
he Corry Beavers traveled to Harbor Creek on Tuesday Night and shot lights out to give us an early lead.  Corry hit 6 3point shots in the first quarter: 3 from Rylan Smith, 1 a piece from Kamdyn Moon, Markus Lambert, and Karson Chamberlin to end the first quarter with a score of 23-15. Harbor Creek was in a 2/3 zone for the majority of the first half until they had to switch to a man to man defense.  Rylan Smith led the way in the first half with 18 points, and finished with 25 for the game.  Tonight we guarded JT Delsandro very well. He was held scoreless in the first half and then had 8 points to end the game. We had a difficult time guarding their center: Braylen Wilson who had 24 points and 10+ rebounds. We had Ricketts guarding him for the majority of the game, and he worked hard. Wilson's size was the issue. He is a big guy, and hard to move around specifically on the rebounding side of things. With a guy that big we needed more help, and at times we struggled to commit to getting the job done with our guards collapsing and making it more difficult. When we did commit to helping we forced him to shoot difficult shots and turn over the ball. ' In the second half we came out a little lethargic at first, turning the ball over a few times. Kamdyn Moon sparked us in the 3rd with a couple 3 point shots and free throws. The second half, I thought Harbor Creek's defense was much more energetic and physical, which gave us a tough time in the third quarter. They outscored us by 1 point that quarter. In the fourth we took over once again and stayed consistent scoring the ball.  Tonight we shot the ball extremely well:  Overall shooting: 58%, Made 10 3's at 50%, and went 11-15 from the foul line.  Rylan Smith and Kamdyn Moon both had 4 3's  3 people in double digits, and Karson with 9 points.  Stats Leaders:  Rylan Smith: 25 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals  Kamdyn Moon: 19 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds  Markus Lambert: 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists  Karson Chamberlin: 9 points, 5 assists, 2 steals  Cameron Ricketts: 3 rebounds, 2 steals  Great defense from Moon, Chamberlin, Kornikoski, Ricketts, Rylan, and Lambert.

Coming into the contest I knew that this game would be a dog fight. Right out of the gate we had to call a timeout because we fell to a 0-6 deficit, and had to change a few things around. Once we got back on the floor our offense seemed to start flowing a little better, and were able to get to within two after the first quarter.    The second quarter we had our best offensive quarter of the year thus far, scoring 25 points. Markus Lambert had his best half of the year scoring 20 points, he went absolutely crazy nailing 4 three point field goals in the half and adding in some really nice drives to the hoop for scores. Markus was amazing to watch both quarters, you don't see that kind of scoring often in two quarters of play. Helping him out in the second quarter was Kamdyn Moon with 7 points, including an AND1 three point shot, Rylan with 6 points, and Cameron Ricketts with 2. During the first half we had 9 three point field goals, which would be hard for any team to contend with.    Ricketts came in at the middle of the first quarter off the bench and helped tame some of our defensive issues we were having, and made some big hustle plays for us. He played the entire 2nd & 3rd quarters, until the guy he was guarding, #24 received a technical and did not play the rest of the game. With #24 not playing, they played a little more small ball.    In the second half we were not as hot from the 3 point line, and their defensive pressure was a little stronger. With the stronger pressure we saw us struggling a little bit more on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half Rylan Smith had 12 points, and Kamdyn Moon with 11. Both of these guys made some huge shots for us at the end of the game and overtime.    We had the ball stolen from us, which led to a layup at the end of the game and Rylan was able to get the ball and score an AND1 to put us up 2 with 10 seconds left to go in the game. In overtime, Kamdyn essentially won us the game with 2 clutch 3 point baskets from the corner and free throws. This was huge for us, and a great confidence booster for him and the entire team. Also to help seal the deal Karson Chamberlin drained two free throws in OT.    We also had great minutes from Tavon Kornikoski on the defensive side of the ball. We got into foul trouble a little with some of our guys and he took over the duty of defending up and coming freshman, Austin Hanson.    For all the fans that were at the game for Eisenhower and Corry, they sure got a thriller to watch for the championship game.    Stats:  Markus Lambert: 27 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds  Rylan Smith: 21 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds  Kamdyn Moon: 18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist  Karson Chamberlin: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists  Tavon Kornikoski: 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist Cameron Ricketts: 2 points, 5 rebounds

Tonight we came out with the pressure that we were all looking for to come out with a 17-2 lead after the first quarter. Rylan Smith and Karson Chamberlin combined for 12 of those first quarter points. Tonight we knew that if we applied good pressure that we would give them issues. Rylan Smith led the charge tonight from the tip.    Tonight we had over ten steals, with Rylan leading the way with 4. I was happy with the pressure we put on them because I thought we kept them in front of us and didn't allow much at all down the court. Keeping them in front of us led to a lot of contested shots, in which we only allowed 3 points at the half. All of our guys did a nice job in that area tonight.    In the second quarter we outscored them 21-1. Markus Lambert and Kamdyn Moon combined for 14 of those points. Tonight we had a lot of different guys scoring, which was nice to see. Some of the guys needed that confidence from tonight, to keep them going and have good head space for the second half of the season.    In the second half, we let down a little because we weren't applying the pressure. That happens sometimes during games that are a little lopsided, but that was a focus coming out of the half. After that we started scoring often, and I was able to get a bunch of guys off the bench in the game.    Tomorrow night, we will be playing against the Eisenhower Knights in the Championship. This team is a solid squad, with a lot of confidence coming in with wings against Cambridge Springs and Fort LeBoeuf.    Rylan Smith - 20pts, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists  Markus Lambert - 10pts, 4 rebounds  Kamdyn Moon - 8 points, 3 rebounds  Karson Chamberlin - 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals  Keaton Frisina - 4 points, 1 steal  Tavon Kornikoski, Landon Deane, Parker Trask, and Cameron Ricketts - 2 points

The Lancers came in tonight and both teams played hard and physical. The Lancers were led by Jacob Zietz with 23 points and came out with a 12 point win. Late in the ball game we kept exchanging points and repeatedly got to within 7 points, but we just couldn’t get any closer than that. Tonight was really the first night we dealt with the 5 foul rule. Zietz got to the line 7 times in the fourth quarter, for 14 attempts and converted 7 of those. As a team they got to the line 23 times. Tonight the beavers with were led by Markus Lambert with 23 points & 3 rebounds. After the first quarter I thought we did a better job of going north and south to the hoop and creating shots for ourselves. In a game like this you can think of the costly turnovers, a couple opportunities at the rim that we didn’t score, and a couple spurts of just weaker play and a loss of focus that cost us the game. Markus played a great overall game and mixed up his outside and inside shots often. When he does that, he is very hard to match up against. Tonight we were called for 19 fouls to General McLanes 7, which I thought was a little inconsistent at times. This makes the game hard especially when Rylan got in foul trouble early. When he went out they went on a scoring spurt, so I had to get him back in the game. We definitely had some nice looks that didn’t fall tonight, but so did they. They came out on top and were the better team tonight. After tonight’s game I think it gave our guys the confidence to know that if we change some things and possibly see them in the post season that we can play right with them and have a shot at high caliber teams like them. Not only GM, but teams down the road as well. Something I tried to stress, but we didn’t do a great job at tonight was helping on Jacob Zietz. Our guys guarding him did a good job, but he is a great player and we need others to help and step in more to get the ball out of his hands and make some of the other guys try to beat us more. The offense clearly ran through him, and I feel we can do a better job handling him. GM is a team that runs 5 guards/forwards, which makes us play a lot of small ball. Rebounding was difficult for us tonight and specifically in the first half we were out rebounded by a good margin. We need to get better at boxing out our guys, and paying attention to fine detail in that area. When GM put in there big guy, we were able to get Ricketts in the game and guard him well, he came down with 2 rebounds. I thought we played aggressively and did a decent job, with a few lapses in pressure. Karson Chamberlin had the ball in his hands quite a bit of the time in the man to man full court pressure. He played some really good defense tonight and came up with several hustle plays. He finished with 3 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Rylan Smith ended the game with 14 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. He led all scorers with 9 points in the first half, and scored 5 in the second. He really did a nice job creating tonight for himself and others. His dribble drive was really strong tonight and he can really look at that tonight and realize he can continue to do that and be extremely effective specifically when they are really guarding his outside shot. Kamdyn Moon had some really nice 3 point looks tonight. He continues to get a lot of really nice dishes for great scoring opportunities and is starting to create more for himself with that mid range shot he likes. He finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Other key contributors: Tavon, who played a strong defensive game Deane, who came in and had a block Scouten & Albers - who came in for short stints Next up is our Jim Gruca Christmas Tournament on Dec 28th and 29th. We first play Northwestern at 7:30PM on the 28th.

Win: 68 - 27
The Corry Boys Basketball Team faced off against the Seneca Wildcats on Tuesday. The Beavers fought off a slow first quarter, and trailed 10–12 going into the second quarter. Markus Lambert carried us in the 1st quarter, keeping us in the game with 7 points. We took our time on offense, but settled for several outside shots early. Markus really seemed to be the only guy able to get in the paint early to make things happen. The second quarter we took off and never looked back. We out scoured the bobcats 23-2 to give us a nice lead going into the half. We played with more aggression defensively and started to cause havoc on them with our pressure. Rylan got in the mix in the second with 8 points, as well as Markus with 8 more. Kamdyn Moon also let loose with 5 and Chamberlin with two. Once we saw the ball go in a few times, we caught fire. The third and fourth quarter was a lot of the same. Rylan had himself a great second half, scoring 15 of his team high 26 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals. He had 7 three point field goals tonight. Lambert was right behind him with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. The duo combined  for 44 of our 68 points tonight. It’s nice to have two guys like this, they really compliment each other well. Moon finished with 8 points, 2 rebounds. Chamberlin finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Chamberlin really made some nice hustle plays once again. Specifically one really nice steal to end the second and a pass up to Kamdyn for a layup. Several others got on the scoreboard tonight. Scouten had another 3 point basket. Landon Atha had his first varsity points, and Jack Albers was able to get back on the court and hit a three. Other contributors were Ricketts (4 rebounds), Kornikoski (2 rebounds), Frisina (1 steal), Turben, Trask (1 rebound), and Kaydan McCray.

Win: 60 - 29
Rylan Smith leads the way on senior night. Smith finished the night with 26 points, scoring 18 of those points in the first half to help us get a 20 point lead at the half. All available seniors were able to score tonight. Markus Lambert finished the game with 14 points, and Tavon Kornikoski with 2. Tonight we pressured all game and were able to get 17 plus steals, which helped us get out to an early lead. Although at the beginning of the game the game was tied 7-7 for too long, we then took off and stretched the lead out to 10 by then end of the first quarter. Leading the way in steals was Rylan with 5, Chamberlin with 4,  Kornikoski with 3, and Moon with 3. We faced a 2/3 zone for the first time this year. At times we moved the ball around well, but we need to get more in sink and be a bit smoother. Specifically in our zone plays. We finished the game with 4 total turnovers and didn’t have one in the second half. Tonight was a great night for senior night, and I would like to thank Nicole Lambert and our boosters for putting on a memorable senior night for our 8 total seniors on the basketball team and cheerleading squad. Unfortunately, Jack Albers was our only senior that did not get to play tonight. He has been under the weather and last night was the first time stepping back on the court in over a week. We look forward to getting him back in rhythm and playing some good basketball. Landon Deane scored 4 points for the varsity tonight. Two free throws and a layup. I enjoy seeing some new faces in the scoring column. Also, Nick Scouten had his first three point field goal tonight at the varsity level was great to see. Others who played a part tonight were: Frisina, Trask, Ricketts, and Kent. Lambert and Smith lead the way on the boards with 7 a piece, and Moon with 4. Moon also finished with 12 points, and played a nice game for us once again. Next week we have a tough week with Seneca and GM, so we have to prepare well and look good in practice, so we can compete at a high level and leave a good taste in our mouths going into Christmas break.

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Girard High School

Lose: 48 - 62
The Corry Boys Basketball Team ran into a tough Girard Yellowjackets team. Tonight I knew we were going to be up against some stiff competition. Girard handed us full court man to man pressure the entire game, with great doubles, and rotation off the ball to get there hands on anything they possibly could. Tonight we had to focus on being smart, staying composed, and not rushing ourselves when there was pressure. Tonight we just weren’t consistent in those areas enough to beat them. I thought we played with good intensity and played hard, we just had too many mistakes each half. In fact, we had around 7 turnovers each half, mainly coming from there pressure. We came out in a 1/2/2 defense and did well in it specifically the first quarter and second was not as great but not terrible. I really wanted my guys to focus on the guys in there area and know who we wanted to beat us. We did not want #3 and #33 to beat us. There was always at least 2 guys on the floor that we wanted to take the chance on to beat us. Unfortunately we took our eyes off of 3 a little too much and really did a pretty good job on #33 Dell’Omo. #3 Gus Edwards torched us with 25 points and was consistent in both the zone and man defense we played. He played a really nice ball game tonight. Something I really respect about Gus is his work ethic. I watched him warm up and his routine is unbelievable and what you would love to see out of every player you coach. His routine really puts him in a spot to be prepared every night. Trailing 13-14 at the end of the first quarter we were led by Tavon, with 5 points. I thought he did a really nice job early getting some nice buckets around the hoop. Markus with 5, he played strong all game long. Kamdyn nailed a three pointer as well. I started off in a 1/2/2 because I was a little worried about their quickness and the ability to play big on some of my guards. We were able to keep those things to a minimum and really make them work the ball around the outside. We were working so hard bringing up the ball that we also needed to be in a zone to help conserve a little bit of energy, which playing any zone defense will do. In the second quarter, we were outscored by 7 in part to us having some trouble with pressure and getting to the hoop. This is where we broke down a little bit bringing up the ball and our two lead ball handlers were finding themselves lost in the back court and not exactly where I would have liked them to be. We only scored 6 points to there 13. In the second half we wanted to stay in the 1/2/2 as long as we could while we had a single digit deficit, but that idea changed quickly after they hit 2 three point shots coming out of the half and then kept that 14 point lead the rest of the way. We then had to go into a half court man to man. We found ourselves getting beat off the dribble and getting isolated with some of guards who were scored on easily inside the paint. The third quarter was our highest scoring quarter with 18 points, but we allowed 24. Markus was our leading scorer in the quarter with 14 of our 18 points. He was able to take his guy off the dribble often and either get the bucket or get fouled. Something we did well tonight was drawing fouls, we had a few of their guys in foul trouble and we were able to get to the line 17 times and converting 14 of those free throws. In the third and fourth quarter we were messy at times leading to a lot of transition looks for Girard. The fourth quarter was much of the same and was pretty even in the scoring column for both teams. Tonight, Girard was the better team on the court and they deserved the win. We have the ability to stick with a team like that, and I hope we can learn from our mistakes tonight. Composure and decision making is huge in pressure and we had it at times, but not enough to win the game. After the game I told my guys thought we played hard and had the intensity, but some of just have to simply play better in order to win against high caliber teams like we saw in Girard tonight. We have to understand that, take it to heart, and be better. I’m happy we got to the see the pressure tonight because this isn’t the only time we are going to see it. We need to get better at it with more intensity in practice. I had 4 or 5 guys that played tonight that really haven’t been in a game like that yet. That’s some fast pace intense basketball, and those guys now know what it’s like now. We look forward to responding to this loss on Friday night against Maplewood. Markus Lambert finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds. He really carried us offensively. Rylan 6 points, 5 rebounds Karson 6 points, 5 rebounds Kamdyn  6 points, 2 assists Tavon 5 points, 1 assist Other contributors were Ricketts, Deane, Frisina, Atha, and Scouten.

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School

Win: 57 - 55
Today we didn’t come out with the same energy that we had against North East. I thought we were a bit lethargic and we weren’t quite in it at the beginning of the game, which kind of just dragged on throughout the game. Sometimes games aren’t always pretty, but I’m glad we came out with a win. Kudos to Cambridge Springs, I think they played a great game. They came out ready to roll and played at a high level. I thought we were very well prepared for them and knew what to expect. They handled the ball better than I anticipated them and they really took advantage of their height. Coach Leandro has been around the game for a long time, and she gave us everything we could handle. Kamdyn Moon has had a great start for us on both sides of the ball. He is taking advantage of the looks he is getting and capitalizing, which has been key in our wins early this season thus far. Moon had 18 points, 4 of his shots being 3-point field goals. He also had 3 rebounds. He has racked up 11 threes thus far in three games. Surprisingly we only had 5 three pointers made tonight, which is not typical. We tend to be higher in that area, but we just weren’t hitting from the outside much tonight. Rylan had 13 early points, and helped us gain a 5 point lead at the half, and markus chipped in 8 points. They had 21 of the 38 points going into the half, which were all at the rim. Cambridge then went into a triangle and two look in the 3rd quarter, and basically told us to beat them from the outside. At the beginning of the third we really had some nice ball movement and good looks from the outside, but we just couldn’t convert. This made our guys think twice about taking outside shots and they started to force more inside, which made things difficult. We had spurts where we were up by 8 or 9 points, but they could come back on runs and get it back to 2 or 3 points throughout the second half. Parker Schmidt and Tyler Troutman were the two who really kept them in the game combining for 38 points out of their 53. Once we got into the fourth quarter and had about 4 minutes left, we made them pull out of the triangle and two by stalling. Tonight we had a hard time controlling the ball at times and making good decisions offensively. We allowed the game to get closer, in which we could have prevented by managing the ball better. Tonight we went 10-14 from the foul line which kept us alive in the game. Rylan, Markus, and Karson all knocked down some key free throws in the fourth for us. At the end of the game, we didn’t make some great decisions mentally, which we are going to learn from and understand how to keep our composure in big moments. Since we came out with a win,  these moments are easier to learn and understand what could have happened. Rylan was guarded hard once again, he had someone on him the entire length of the court. He finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. He is going to sleep well. Markus ended with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists.  Lambert ended up fouling out with about 2 minutes left to go in the game. During this time, Keaton Frisina made his varsity debut. I have liked the way he has been playing during the JV games, his energy on the defensive side of the ball and knocking down shots on the offensive side when he is open has really helped the JV team out this year. I like to recognize that kind of stuff when I can, and I thought this was a good time to do that. He came in and didn’t make any mistakes and played a crucial 5 minutes for us in the fourth quarter. Jack Albers has been sick, so we needed to see a guard step up and Keaton did that tonight. Ricketts played a nice game for us off the bench playing nearly 20 minutes. He played solid defense, had 4 points, and 4 rebounds. Karson plays very hard all game long for us and is a huge part to the team. He is gritty and really does a nice job when we need things to happen. Tonight he finished with 3 points. The offensive side of things were not going his way, in which I could care less about. Those nights are going to happen, as long as he is bringing that intensity, grit, and hard work in all the other areas he is doing his part in helping the team win big games. The last couple years Karson has been playing varsity, a lot of people come up to me and say how much they love watching him play because he brings it every game defensively. He dives all over for the ball, he takes charges, and does all those hard things that takes a ton of energy and desire to do. Other key players tonight were Tavon, Deane, and Parker Trask. All these guys are making an impact and taking advantage of the minutes they are getting at the varsity level. Tavon finished with 2 points and 1 assist & Deane finished with 1 point and 3 rebounds.

Win: 56 - 53
Corry came out on top of the Grape Pickers by a score of 56-53. We came out and took the first quarter lead by a score of 16-14. Smith and Moon had 5 a piece and Lambert with 6. Right from the tip, the game was physical and officials let us play.  The intensity on the defensive side from all five guys was excellent in the first half. Our Communication was great, we didn't allow easy dribble drive opportunities, and easy shots around the hoop. Markus did a great job on Shunk, who had some height on him. We went into the half with a nice 9 point lead.  A key factor in the first half is that we only had three first half turnovers.  Key players in the first half was Tavon and Cameron. Tavon made some big hustle plays and Cameron came in and had 5 rebounds, a charge, and just played nice minutes.  After the half, we came out flat  and didn't have much energy. We started to allow some dribble drives to the hoop, Shunk got some easy shots close to the hoop, and we played sloppier then we had all game. That kind of play put North East up by one after the 3rd. They scored 10 more points  then we did that quarter, in which we only scored eight all by Markus.  During the fourth quarter we got done as many as 4 points. Kamdyn Moon came in clutch during the 4th quarter scoring a team high 10 points in the fourth. We were struggling and he came through. I told Kamdyn at the beginning of the season that this year should be his most enjoyable year. He has two guys in front of him that teams are really going to key on, and he is going to get a lot of nice open shots. He got those tonight and connected in a very timely manner. He was definitely the difference in the game tonight in the second half.  Markus really brought his game tonight pouring in 25 total and had some clutch free throws at the end of the game. Karson hit a free throw late to put us up 3 with 6 seconds left to go. To end the game we used the new foul rule to our advantage and fouled as they started to dribble to take some time off the clock and make them take the ball out to waist some clock. We did that to where we only had 2.3 left on the clock and they had to take a long shot that was tipped to finish game.  Rylan played tough all game and he finished with 9 points and 4 assists, kudos to Noah Crozier. He defended hard tonight and gave him all he could handle.  Kornikoski finished with 2 points and 6 rebounds  Chamberlin finished with 3 assists and 5 points and took a huge charge. He played the entire game at an extremely high level. He is all over the place defensively .. He is a huge part to our pressure.  Moon fished with 15 points and was a key to our win tonight.

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Cochranton Junior/Senior High School

Win: 72 - 48
The Corry Boys Basketball Team traveled to Cochranton to face off against the cardinals for the first game of the 2023 - 2024 season. First game jitters were in effect during the first quarter. Then we started to get a little more comfortable offensively and were able to take the lid off of the basket. While we were struggling offensively, our pressure really helped us out and kept Cochranton on their heals. In the first half we had 9 TOs, and we were able to get better in that area in the second half. Our pressure created several turnovers, but we also got 2+ 5 second counts. This is something we strive to work hard on and defending through that 5 seconds is really difficult. Karson Chamberlin really sparks us in this area and works hard. After our Mercyhurst Prep scrimmage we thought we had a couple opportunities to take charges and we didn’t get the job done. On Thursday, Coach Kellogg came in with a drill that we worked on, and evidently it helped. We took 5 charges and Ricketts should have had another, but was called for a block. These types of things make a huge difference, and I hope we can continue to find ourselves in the right spots defensively. A couple areas we need to get better defensively would be guarding the long ball on our full court pressure and allowing too many looks close to the basket. Offensively we were led by Markus and Rylan who both had 20 points, Kamdyn Moon with 14, and Karson Chamberlin with 9. Rylan did most of his damage in the first half with 17 of his 20, and Markus did most of his damage in the second half scoring 14 of his 20. Lambert had two fouls early and had to sit most of the 1st half.   We scored 72 points, but we still struggled shooting the ball. We put up 70 shots, but shot 38 percent from the floor. We missed a lot of shots close to the hoop. We did shoot 86% from the free throw line going 6 for 7. We did have 14 three point shots made tonight, which is a lot. I do think our offensive firepower will be better than last year’s group, but we are not sure about the defensive side. We continue to work in that department everyday. Leading the 3 point department tonight was Lambert and moon, who both had 4. Our intensity was great tonight, and we are fun to watch when we are playing at the kind of level. We have kids that want to work hard and win, we just have to be consistent in all areas in order to do that. Leading rebounders: Markus Lambert 7, Rylan Smith and Karson Chamberlin with 5 Other notable players who came in and did a good job are: Jack Albers, Cameron Ricketts, Tavon Kornikoski, and Landon Deane. Deane is coming off an injury and we are trying to get him comfortable and get him back in gradually.
