OIL CITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 53
Tonight the beavers traveled to Oil City and got beat by a score of 53-37. Many Corry fans who watched the game may believe that we had some very poor officiating, with a lot of tic tac calls and inconsistency throughout the entire game. I had a feeling this would be a game called just like we receive at CASH, they don’t allow you to play like we do at home. No matter the situation, I believe it is our job to adjust to what is going on in the game and play through it the best that we can. I believe my guys got frustrated early and it impacted our game on the offensive side of the ball.
No matter how the game went, you can’t win games the way we played tonight. We got out rebounded badly, and we shot 26% from the floor. The hard thing to believe is that we shot 12% from inside the arc and 38% from beyond. Before the game and in our game plan meeting we spoke about us not going to get as many offensive looks because they really slow the game down. Once they got up by 10 points they did exactly that. I thought we should have applied more on ball pressure than we did tonight on specific guards.
Rylan and Markus both had two fouls in the first quarter, which anyone knows if that happens, it isn’t great for our team. Offensively we just couldn’t get in stride tonight. We had a lot of bad turnovers, and that can’t happen against teams like Oil City. We only got up 34 shots on the night, we usually get up 60. It really wasn't due to there defense it was the amount of time they took off the clock on the offensive side.
We had a couple runs, but we then would let them spread it out again to 10+ points. Defensively we allowed 53 points, and I always say if we keep it around 50 points against higher caliber teams we have a shot to win.
Leading the way offensively tonight was Rylan with 19, next was Markus with 9, Kamdyn with 6, and Karson with 5. Rylan led the way in rebounds with 5 and Chamberlin with 4.
On a positive note: Karson had 3 huge charge calls, that helped build some momentum and energy. We went 12-13 from the foul line, which is very good.
Oil City played a better ball game tonight despite the officiating issues we faced. We have to put this behind us and get ready for Franklin. Meanwhile every one of us needs to realize we have to be better, and play a much more sound game.
