Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Maplewood HS

Game Date
Dec 15, 2023
Score
: 60
MAPLEWOOD HS: 29

Rylan Smith leads the way on senior night. Smith finished the night with 26 points, scoring 18 of those points in the first half to help us get a 20 point lead at the half.

All available seniors were able to score tonight. Markus Lambert finished the game with 14 points, and Tavon Kornikoski with 2.

Tonight we pressured all game and were able to get 17 plus steals, which helped us get out to an early lead. Although at the beginning of the game the game was tied 7-7 for too long, we then took off and stretched the lead out to 10 by then end of the first quarter. Leading the way in steals was Rylan with 5, Chamberlin with 4,  Kornikoski with 3, and Moon with 3.

We faced a 2/3 zone for the first time this year. At times we moved the ball around well, but we need to get more in sink and be a bit smoother. Specifically in our zone plays. We finished the game with 4 total turnovers and didn’t have one in the second half.

Tonight was a great night for senior night, and I would like to thank Nicole Lambert and our boosters for putting on a memorable senior night for our 8 total seniors on the basketball team and cheerleading squad.

Unfortunately, Jack Albers was our only senior that did not get to play tonight. He has been under the weather and last night was the first time stepping back on the court in over a week. We look forward to getting him back in rhythm and playing some good basketball.

Landon Deane scored 4 points for the varsity tonight. Two free throws and a layup. I enjoy seeing some new faces in the scoring column. Also, Nick Scouten had his first three point field goal tonight at the varsity level was great to see.

Others who played a part tonight were: Frisina, Trask, Ricketts, and Kent.

Lambert and Smith lead the way on the boards with 7 a piece, and Moon with 4. Moon also finished with 12 points, and played a nice game for us once again.

Next week we have a tough week with Seneca and GM, so we have to prepare well and look good in practice, so we can compete at a high level and leave a good taste in our mouths going into Christmas break.
