CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 55

Today we didn’t come out with the same energy that we had against North East. I thought we were a bit lethargic and we weren’t quite in it at the beginning of the game, which kind of just dragged on throughout the game. Sometimes games aren’t always pretty, but I’m glad we came out with a win.

Kudos to Cambridge Springs, I think they played a great game. They came out ready to roll and played at a high level. I thought we were very well prepared for them and knew what to expect. They handled the ball better than I anticipated them and they really took advantage of their height. Coach Leandro has been around the game for a long time, and she gave us everything we could handle.

Kamdyn Moon has had a great start for us on both sides of the ball. He is taking advantage of the looks he is getting and capitalizing, which has been key in our wins early this season thus far. Moon had 18 points, 4 of his shots being 3-point field goals. He also had 3 rebounds. He has racked up 11 threes thus far in three games.

Surprisingly we only had 5 three pointers made tonight, which is not typical. We tend to be higher in that area, but we just weren’t hitting from the outside much tonight.

Rylan had 13 early points, and helped us gain a 5 point lead at the half, and markus chipped in 8 points. They had 21 of the 38 points going into the half, which were all at the rim.

Cambridge then went into a triangle and two look in the 3rd quarter, and basically told us to beat them from the outside. At the beginning of the third we really had some nice ball movement and good looks from the outside, but we just couldn’t convert. This made our guys think twice about taking outside shots and they started to force more inside, which made things difficult. We had spurts where we were up by 8 or 9 points, but they could come back on runs and get it back to 2 or 3 points throughout the second half.

Parker Schmidt and Tyler Troutman were the two who really kept them in the game combining for 38 points out of their 53.

Once we got into the fourth quarter and had about 4 minutes left, we made them pull out of the triangle and two by stalling. Tonight we had a hard time controlling the ball at times and making good decisions offensively. We allowed the game to get closer, in which we could have prevented by managing the ball better.

Tonight we went 10-14 from the foul line which kept us alive in the game. Rylan, Markus, and Karson all knocked down some key free throws in the fourth for us.

At the end of the game, we didn’t make some great decisions mentally, which we are going to learn from and understand how to keep our composure in big moments. Since we came out with a win,  these moments are easier to learn and understand what could have happened.

Rylan was guarded hard once again, he had someone on him the entire length of the court. He finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. He is going to sleep well.

Markus ended with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists.  Lambert ended up fouling out with about 2 minutes left to go in the game.

During this time, Keaton Frisina made his varsity debut. I have liked the way he has been playing during the JV games, his energy on the defensive side of the ball and knocking down shots on the offensive side when he is open has really helped the JV team out this year. I like to recognize that kind of stuff when I can, and I thought this was a good time to do that. He came in and didn’t make any mistakes and played a crucial 5 minutes for us in the fourth quarter.

Jack Albers has been sick, so we needed to see a guard step up and Keaton did that tonight.

Ricketts played a nice game for us off the bench playing nearly 20 minutes. He played solid defense, had 4 points, and 4 rebounds.

Karson plays very hard all game long for us and is a huge part to the team. He is gritty and really does a nice job when we need things to happen. Tonight he finished with 3 points. The offensive side of things were not going his way, in which I could care less about. Those nights are going to happen, as long as he is bringing that intensity, grit, and hard work in all the other areas he is doing his part in helping the team win big games. The last couple years Karson has been playing varsity, a lot of people come up to me and say how much they love watching him play because he brings it every game defensively. He dives all over for the ball, he takes charges, and does all those hard things that takes a ton of energy and desire to do.

Other key players tonight were Tavon, Deane, and Parker Trask. All these guys are making an impact and taking advantage of the minutes they are getting at the varsity level.

Tavon finished with 2 points and 1 assist & Deane finished with 1 point and 3 rebounds.
