Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Titusville HS School

Game Date
Feb 13, 2024
Score
: 69
TITUSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 61

Slow start but the beavers win the last home game of the season over the rockets.

After the first quarter we were down 9-13 and the beaver offense was struggling to get the lid off of the basket. In the second quarter Corry erupted scoring 21 points, leading the way was Rylan Smith with 8 points, and Markus Lambert with 7 points. This handed us an 8 point lead going into halftime.

During halftime we spoke about our shot selection. We were aware that the majority of our shots were open from the outside, but we were not hitting them. We needed to adjust and get some nice inside looks to start the half to gain some confidence back for our outside shot. We did just that. We set up some inside looks for Markus right away down low and he connected for our first 6 points, and then we were able to hit from the outside with Kamdyn Moon hitting 3 of his 5 three point shots in the third and Rylan connecting with one. During the third quarter we tied our season high with 25 points in a quarter.

In the second half we were able to get a 20 point lead, but this game was very identical to CASH at home. We would get nice leads and then we would let them back in the game. Kurshinski was a big reason why he finished with 22 points and the majority coming in the second half. Our pressure gave us multiple turnovers, but this area is a key point to some of our struggles as well, and we gave some right back.

Markus Lambert has had a great season so far for us. He is averaging around 20 points, and has scored the ball in so many different ways. He has been very consistent throughout games, which has helped our team out tremendously. He has really not only impressed us, but a lot of coaches we have played against. Rylan Smith was right behind him with 19 points tonight, and is averaging around 17 points per game on the season. He has been a consistent force, and he draws a lot of attention, which gives our teams really nice looks. He leads our team in every other category besides points. Kamdyn Moon put himself in an even better spot in D10 with 67 made threes on the year, which puts him in second or third after tonight. He is averaging 12 points and had 15 tonight. I am really proud of Kamdyn thus far, and I like the way he is playing ball. He is stepping up and I like seeing that out of him. He is very capable, and he is someone who is going to keep working hard to get better and better.

Karson got himself into some early foul trouble tonight, but he is the key to our success on the defensive side of the ball. He is always in the right spots, and is willing to do a lot of the gritty work. As of late he has really done a nice job offensively looking for his shot, which is something we need him to do. Tavon played a tough ball game tonight and has all year. He has made a huge jump from a year ago. Cameron Ricketts and Jack Albers came off the bench tonight and played a lot of minutes. Cameron is finding himself in the right spots and now getting some nice dump off looks and starting to convert more consistently. Jack came in firing today, and was aggressive. I enjoyed watching him play, and he got a lot of rebounds tonight.

Tonight was the last home game for the four seniors, but we are not done yet! We have Warren on Friday, and hopefully get into the playoffs and make a push.
