CONNEAUT AREA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 60

The Corry Beavers did not get off the bus ready to play against the Eagles on Friday Night. After multiple practices trying to get better with pressure and our press break we continued to have trouble in the front court. We weren't aggressive trying to get down the court in the pressure and we were pretty hesitant trying not to make mistakes. Being hesitant led to more trouble.

Defensively we did not stay in front of our guys and our effort level on that side of the ball was not where it normally is. The brand of basketball that we have been playing all season just was not there, and it has left us a little salty. This was a game we should never lose.

In order to get over this hump, we need to all be better and realize that every time we step on the court we need to be ready to play basketball at the highest level possible. Coming into the game I was telling the guys that we can't look at the first game and predict what is going to happen. I felt like we did that, and it hurt us tonight.

At the 3:45 mark in the 4th quarter Rylan picked up his 5th foul and Nick Scouten came into the game and played solid for us. As one of our top scorers came out of the game, we had to put another scorer in the game and I thought he responded very well. He did not come in hesitant and played solid while he was in the game.

Rylan Smith had a memorable night, as he eclipsed the 1000 point mark in the second half. Rylan is now the 6th boys basketball player in school history to reach the 1000 point mark. He is a very special player and he has earned every point he has scored on the court. He is the first player under Coach Bailey to start since being a freshman (4 years). He has come to nearly every off season event that we have had and has taken a lot of time on his own to be the best that he can be, and that is what it takes to be a high caliber player. I am very proud of him and couldn't be more happy for him.

It is now time to get back to work at practice these next few days and get over this funk we are in. We play Oil City on Tuesday, and we need to come out ready to play.

Rylan Smith led all scorers with 19 points, Markus Lambert with 15, Kamdyn Moon with 9 points.
