Boys Varsity Basketball vs. OPEN

Game Date
Dec 29, 2023
Score
: 74
OPEN: 66

Coming into the contest I knew that this game would be a dog fight. Right out of the gate we had to call a timeout because we fell to a 0-6 deficit, and had to change a few things around. Once we got back on the floor our offense seemed to start flowing a little better, and were able to get to within two after the first quarter.

The second quarter we had our best offensive quarter of the year thus far, scoring 25 points. Markus Lambert had his best half of the year scoring 20 points, he went absolutely crazy nailing 4 three point field goals in the half and adding in some really nice drives to the hoop for scores. Markus was amazing to watch both quarters, you don't see that kind of scoring often in two quarters of play. Helping him out in the second quarter was Kamdyn Moon with 7 points, including an AND1 three point shot, Rylan with 6 points, and Cameron Ricketts with 2. During the first half we had 9 three point field goals, which would be hard for any team to contend with.

Ricketts came in at the middle of the first quarter off the bench and helped tame some of our defensive issues we were having, and made some big hustle plays for us. He played the entire 2nd & 3rd quarters, until the guy he was guarding, #24 received a technical and did not play the rest of the game. With #24 not playing, they played a little more small ball.

In the second half we were not as hot from the 3 point line, and their defensive pressure was a little stronger. With the stronger pressure we saw us struggling a little bit more on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half Rylan Smith had 12 points, and Kamdyn Moon with 11. Both of these guys made some huge shots for us at the end of the game and overtime.

We had the ball stolen from us, which led to a layup at the end of the game and Rylan was able to get the ball and score an AND1 to put us up 2 with 10 seconds left to go in the game. In overtime, Kamdyn essentially won us the game with 2 clutch 3 point baskets from the corner and free throws. This was huge for us, and a great confidence booster for him and the entire team. Also to help seal the deal Karson Chamberlin drained two free throws in OT.

We also had great minutes from Tavon Kornikoski on the defensive side of the ball. We got into foul trouble a little with some of our guys and he took over the duty of defending up and coming freshman, Austin Hanson.

For all the fans that were at the game for Eisenhower and Corry, they sure got a thriller to watch for the championship game.
