WARREN AREA HIGH SCHOOL: 79
The Corry Boys Basketball Team faced a tough Warren Dragon Team on Tuesday. Warren came out in a full court 1/2/2 pressure defense and took it to us tonight. We knew what was coming at us tonight and knew that was going to be the difference maker in the game. We came out and had a hard time with it all night long. They rarely had to get into a half court man because they were able to cause problems before that. It all comes down to on floor decision making, getting the ball down the floor with nice quick passes to keep that defense moving and trying to stay off the sideline as much as possible. We had trouble all the way around tonight.
Warren had 5 guys in double figures, which is very normal for them. You never see one guy going off for 30. They distribute well, and get a ton of transition opportunities. Not only do they get the transition opportunities off the press, but they push the ball no matter what the situation is (Missed Shots/Made Shots) and they are very successful doing it.
During halftime I had a lot to say, but I gave the guys three areas to focus on to get us back in the game. 1. Decision Making on front court pressure 2. Transition Defense 3. Rebounding. We had to get better in those areas in order to get back in the game, but we were not able to make it happen.
Markus Lambert led us in scoring tonight with 21, and was in foul trouble throughout the entire game. We really need to have him in the game at all times versus high caliber teams and tonight he unfortunately had to sit too much for us tonight. When he was able to get settled into the game he made a big difference on the offensive end.
Kamdyn Moon shot the ball extremely well tonight with 16 points, I thought he struggled a little bit making decisions when he had the ball in his hands other than when he was shooting.
Karson Chamberlin played gritty all night as always, and he hit a three in the first half along with 3 free throws finishing with 6 points. He was second tonight in rebounds with 4.
Rylan Smith did not get a lot of shots up tonight, and finished with 5 points. He led in three other categories with 5 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Tavon played hard after having a little setback this week in practice. I'm glad he got out there and played the way he did.
Deane and Ricketts came off the bench tonight and played hard. Deane had two points.
Jack Albers and Nick Scouten both came off the bench for us in the 4th quarter and had 5 points a piece. Landon Atha came in late and finished with 2 points.
Corry travels to CASH on Friday, which is never an easy game. We got to be locked in and ready to roll.
