Corry: 12-9-2-8 31
GM: 2-7-8-11 28
Corry traveled to North East for the first round of the end-of-the-year tournament. They had a tough matchup with General McLane who they split with during the regular season. Corry started out hot, spreading the wealth and getting 12 points from four different players. Their defense was stifling, only allowing two points for GM. In the second quarter general McLane was able to get seven more points on the board, but Ava West went off scoring all nine of Corry's second quarter points. The second half of the game was a different story. Corry watched their 11 point lead dwindle away when GM was able to get a couple threes to fall, and Corry only managed one bucket. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference. GM was able to tie it up at 26. With 58 seconds left, Maci Kemp was fouled driving to the hoop. She drained them both to give Corry a two-point lead. GM then turned it over trying to get it back in bounds. Kemp again drove to the hoop and got fouled, this time making one of two to give Corry a three-point lead. With 30 seconds to go. GM's leading scorer, Mia Washburn was fouled. She made them both, and Corry's lead was now down to one. With both teams in the bonus now, Ava West was fouled with 9 seconds left. She made both free throws to put Corry back up by 3. GM had a last second, half court shot attempt that missed. Corry getting the win, 31-28. Corry was led by Ava with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Baylee Northrop had 9 points, and 2 steals, Maci had 3 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Jordyn Watrous had 2 points and 4 rebounds, Liv Swan had 2 points, Hannah Daniels added a rebound and Delaney Church had a steal.
We told the girls at halftime that even though we were up big in the first half, the second half could be a different story. That definitely proved to be the case, however the kids persevered and held on to get the win. Ava and Maci's foul shots at the end were clutch. Baylee had a solid game under the hoop. Jordyn and Mikayla had the tough task of guarding Washburn. She still managed to get her points but Jordyn & Mikayla did not make it easy for her. The 8th graders will now face North East at 4:30 on Friday. Win they play at 6:50, lose they play at 5:40.
