Girls Middle School Basketball vs. Eisenhower Middle/HS School

Game Date
Oct 21, 2023
Score
: 28
EISENHOWER MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL: 5

Corry:  16-4-2-6-----28

Eisenhower:  1-0-0-4-----5

Corry had their last home game Saturday morning against Eisenhower. With Eisenhower only having one team, Corry combined their teams to dress all twenty girls.  Corry wasted no time in the 1st quarter, jumping out to a 16-1 lead. From there, Corry controlled the rest of the game by winning each quarter; 4-0, 2-0, 6-4 to finish with a 28-5 victory.

Keys to the game were our half-court defense which really made it tough for Eisenhower to run their offense as well as our transition and press break. Our guards were able to break the press and push the ball up the floor. From there, they made good decisions to find the open girl.

I couldn't have asked for a better game from my eighth graders. All nine players contributed in the 1st quarter and really set the tone early. It was great to see them playing as a team. What I was most proud of, though, was their willingness and eagerness to try to get some younger players their first field goals of the year. It was very special to watch.

Leading the offensive was Koda Kuzma and Morgan Vanderschaaff with 6 points each. Lucy Hasbrouck and Jordyn Watrous had 4 points each while Maggie Young, Emry Passinger, Lauren Fox, and Delaney Church each had 2 points. Emry led us in assists with 2 while Katie Downey, Madi Leofsky, and Koda had 1 each.

Baylee Kuzma continued to be a force down low by leading us in rebounds with 6. Katie and Maggie had 4 each, Emry and Morgan collected 2 each, while Koda, Lauren, Lucy, Emma Kight, Alivia Swan, Mikayla Comitz, Karleigh Moon, and Baylee Northrop had 1 each.

Defensively, Madi had a team high 3 steals while Koda, Emry, and Karleigh had 2 steals each. Baylee Kuzma, Lucy, Mikayla, and Baylee Northrop had 1 each. Corry was able to register 4 blocks in the game with Koda, Maggie, Lauren, and Delaney each earning one.

It was fun to see the 7th graders contribute in the 8th grade game. It was a learning experience for them as well as a little teaser for next season when they will be 8th graders.

Corry travels to FLB for their last regular season game on Monday.

8th Grade against Titusville on October 14th:

Corry:  12-10-10-14------46

Titusville:  5-3-4-8------20

Corry was firing on all cylinders Saturday morning when Titusville came to town.  Corry jumped out to a 12-5 lead after one with multiple buckets coming from assists. Corry continued their unselfish play in the 2nd by scoring 10 points while holding Titusville to 3. With a 22-8 halftime lead, Corry started the 3rd quarter without skipping a beat by scoring another 10 points while holding Titusville to 4. With a commanding lead heading into the 4th quarter, Corry was able to finish the game and secure the win with a final score of 46-20.

Leading us offensively was Maggie Young who caught fire today and scored a career high 16 points. Madi Leofsky was able to score 10 points while also leading us in assists with 5. Other scorers were Morgan Vanderschaaff with 8 pts, Emry Passinger had 6 pts, Baylee Kuzma with 4 pts and an assist, Koda Kuzma with 2 pts and 4 assists, and Lauren Fox and Lucy Hasbrouck with 1 assist each.

Baylee led us on the glass with 10 rebounds, followed by Morgan with 8, Lucy with 5, Ava West with 3, and Maggie, Koda, Emry, and Baylee Northrop with 2 each.

I really liked the girl's energy this morning. They were hyped up and played great team basketball. As a team we had 12 assists which was a season high for us.
