CORRY JV TRAMPLED THE NORTH EAST GRAPE PICKERS IN 2 QUICK SETS

Corry JV easily took care of business in 2 sets on their home court against North East.  North East passed well at times, and they made most of their serves, but they had a tough time generating effective offense and defending against Corry attacks. Corry was able to quickly side out, never allowing North East to score more than one consecutive service point throughout the match.

Keys to Outcome & Coach’s Comments:

Set 1 saw Corry get out to a quick lead early in the set, and build on that lead through the end of the set.  Defensive specialist, Sydney Mineo, and setter Kendyll Chamberlin, had the longest serving runs.  Mineo served the final 5 points of the set and showed good poise behind the service line.  Very good free-ball passing, defense, and efficient hitting supported the serving runs.  Middle hitter Lindsey Hasbrouck had 3 kills on four attempts, and outside hitters, Emmalee Carr and Tori Kinney combined for 5 kills.  Defensively, libero Sydney Woods and Kinney each had 5 digs in the set.

In set 2, with all of the Corry freshmen in the lineup, the results were the same.  This time it was defensive specialist, Bailee McCray, who served North East off the court.  With a 17-10 lead, McCray served up a run of 5 including 3 aces.  Setter Brynley Watrous quarterbacked an effective offense, connecting with 4 different hitters for 12 kills and 12 assists.  Freshman right side hitter, Liz Colwell, had two kills and played good defense, contributing to the win.

Even though this was not our best outing when it came to passing in serve-receive, we were still getting swings on balls and keeping North East on their heels.  In every other phase of the game we out-played North East.  Energy and effort was good throughout the match.
