Corry wins with Buzzer beater

It was a battle that began two years ago in 7th grade for these freshmen. Corry knew what they were up against and knew what they had to do to win this game. However, the first quarter was going all Seneca's way. Corry did not have an answer for Haley Farrell down low who scored six points in the first. Corry quickly found themselves in a hole after one, down 13 to 3. Corry's D stepped it up in the second limiting Seneca to just five points. However, Corry struggled to score and only got a bucket from Haley Mumau and two foul shots from Rylee Nickerson. Corry found themselves down by 11 at the half. But the tides turned during the second half. Nickerson was on a mission and started piling up the rebounds as well as knocking in seven points. She also had the big task of stopping Farrell. She only allowed her a three-pointer in the 3rd quarter. Corry only knocked down the lead by one, though, still down by 10 going into the 4th. The fourth quarter is where Corry took charge. Down 27-17, Haley Mumau hit a three from the corner to get them within seven. A couple possessions later Mumau was fouled driving middle and drained both her foul shots making it 27-22. Farrell made a layup for Seneca to push it back up by 7. Mumau again hit a three from the same corner to put Corry within four. On the next possession Regan Kemp drove middle and hit a floater from the foul line and got fouled hard for the and-one, draining her foul shot as well. Corry was now down by one. On the next possession Seneca's Troutman was fouled while shooting, draining the shot but missing the free throw. Corry was down again by 3, but not for long. Alison Yetzer hit a three from the corner tying it up at 31. With time running out Seneca called timeout to draw up the inbounds play. The in-bounds play didn't work out, but they were able to run another play and get it into Farrell who scored a layup. Corry was now down by 2 with just seconds remaining. They got the ball across half court but were being pressured. Corry called the time out with enough time to draw up one last play. The girls ran it to perfection. Kemp inbounded to Mumau at the top of the key, Mumau nailing the three for the win at the buzzer. For the game Mumau led all scorers with 15 points, 11 of those in the fourth quarter with three, three-pointers. Nickerson added nine, Yetzer with seven and Kemp with three. Nickerson was a beast on the boards with 16 rebounds and Kemp with 8. Kemp led in steals and assists with 4 and 3 respectively. Mumau and Yetzer with 3 steals and 2 assists each. These Freshman have been waiting for this win for 3 years. We came close last year losing to these Seneca girls by 1 in the year-end tournament. The turnaround we made in the fourth quarter was incredible, scoring 17 points.  That was all we scored for the whole first three quarters combined. We never led this entire game. We had some huge clutch threes from Ali and Haley and Regan's and-one was huge too. Haley was on fire in the fourth, draining everything. It was just fitting the final shot was for her. I love to see the fight in these girls. Even down ten to start the 4th quarter, they didn't fold. This is a game they will remember their whole lives.
