NORTHWESTERN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 17
Corry: 0-5-4-5 14
Northwestern: 7-6-2-2 17
Corry kicked off their season at the Northwestern Tip-Off Tournament vs. the hosts. The wildcats started off draining a three and 2 more jumpers to go up quickly 7-0. Their hot shooting continued when they drained two more threes in the second. Corry finally got their first in the 2nd on a backdoor cut from Regan Kemp. Kemp also scored a free throw and Haley Mumau scored a bucket. Corry found themselves in the hole at half time though, 13-5. The girls regrouped at the half and turned up their defensive intensity holding Northwestern to just 2 points, while scoring 4. Corry kept clawing their way back in the fourth. They again held Northwestern to 2 points but only managed 5 to come up just short, losing 17-14. Mumausl led all scorers with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Kemp added 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Alison Yetzer added 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. We have 10 new freshman on our JV team. Their nerves got the best of them this game. They were very timid on defense and also had too many turnovers. They started to turn up the intensity in the 3rd quarter, and were playing to their potential in the fourth, but it was too late. I am happy they didn't give up, and won the second half of the game holding them to just 4 points in that half. It was a good tune-up before our big game vs. Seneca on Tuesday. Our girls definitely see them as rivals and are ready to get another shot at them this season.
Other stats:
