Boys Junior Varsity Football vs. Oil City Senior HS School

Game Date
Sep 3, 2022
Score
: 12
OIL CITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 8

The Corry JV football team had its first home game of the season on Saturday, and were able to beat the Oil City Oilers 12-8 in a hard-fought defensive battle.

Oil City struck paydirt first, putting together a 65 yard drive on their first possession of the game. They methodically moved the ball down the field, capping off the drive with a 15 yard touchdown pass, and scoring on the two point conversion as well to go up 8-0.

The Corry defense kicked it up a notch, and did not give up any further scores in the first half. The Beaver offense was able to move the ball fairly well, and had several long drives, but could not get the ball into the end zone. The score at the half was 8-0, Oil City.

Corry received the kickoff to open the second half, and they scored a quick TD, with Frankie Barr ripping off a 47 yard TD run. The two point conversion failed, and Oil City still led, but by a narrow 8-6 margin. That score remained the same for the remainder of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Corry turned the football over and Oil City had a short field to work with. However, Gabe Scouten came up with a huge interception, and a big return to put the Beaver offense in great position to score. Quarterback Marcus Meredith hit Scouten for a thirty yard TD pass to put Corry ahead in the game for the first time 12-8. Corry's defense remained stout, and shut down the Oiler offense to win the game.

The Beaver offense was led by Frankie Barr, who had 13 rushes for 111 yards and a TD. Nathan Weis kicked in another 40 yards rushing as well. The offensive line of Owen Nickerson, Carson Meredith, Greyson Linkerhof, Aiden Trask, and Landon Bowen opened up huge holes for the running backs, and helped Corry's passing game by giving their quarterback lots of time to throw.  Marcus Meredith and Lucas Baker combined for 104 yards passing. Noah Fisher led the receivers with 3 catches for 53 yards, while Scouten added 2 catches for 37 yards and a TD.

Corry's defense was led by Noah Fisher with ten tackles, while Linkerhof, Porter Kafferlin, and Cooper Hodak each had a sack. Gabe Scouten had an interception as well.

The Corry Beaver Varsity football team will travel to Conneaut Ohio on Friday, while the JV plays against the Conneaut JV on Saturday at home.
