Boys Junior Varsity Football vs. Union City Area School District

Game Date
Oct 8, 2022
Score
: 28
UNION CITY AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT: 6

Corry's Junior Varsity football team travelled to Union City on Saturday to take on the Bears. Initially, the Beavers were scheduled to play against North East, however, the Grape Pickers did not field a JV team this year. Fortunately, Union City had an open date, and were willing to host Corry for a nextdoor neighbor matchup. Corry came away with the victory, beating the Bears by a 28-6 score.

After shutting down the Bears offense on their initial drive, the Beavers methodically moved the ball down the field, utilizing their running game to open the scoring on a 7 yard TD run. With both teams running the football, the quick first period ended with the Beavers leading 6-0.  The second quarter was a big one for Corry. Gabe Scouten added to the Beaver lead with a 25 yard interception return for a touchdown. With the two point conversion, the Beaver's lead was now 14-0.  Later in the quarter, the Beavers put together a drive that culminated with a Lucas Baker 2 yard TD run. The conversion was no good, and Corry led 20-0. With seconds left in the first half, the Beavers scored again on a TD pass from Baker to Porter Kafferlin, who also caught the 2 point conversion pass. At the half, the Beavers lead was 28-0 over the Bears.

The third quarter was a scoreless one, and the Bears finally dented the scoreboard in the 4th quarter on a short run by their running back. The Bears didn't convert the 2 point conversion, and the final score for the game was 28-6.

The Beaver's offense was led by Frankie Barr, who scored the opening touchdown, and finished with 34 yards rushing. Nathan Weis led the team with 40 yards on the ground, while Logan Rhodes chipped in 31 yards rushing. Lucas Baker had 30 yards passing and a TD pass, and Noah Fisher led the team with 2 catches for 17 yards. The offensive line, consisting of Landon Bowen, Greyson Linkerhof, Owen Nickerson, Carson Meredith, and Jameson Dyne paved the way for seven different Corry ball carriers to tally 140 yards of offense.

Defensively, Corry played very well, only surrendering the one late TD. Alex Schmidt led the team with 8 tackles, while Jack Hallberg tallied 6 tackles of his own. Scouten, Baker, and Gavin Greer all had interceptions in the game. Landon Hasbrouck and Logan Rhodes each recorded a sack, while Marshall Morris and Tyler Aderhold led the team in tackles for loss.

Overall, the Beavers played very well. It was great to get back on the football field after not playing last week (Fairview called last week's game off due to not having enough players). While we looked a little rusty early, we improved throughout the course of the game.

The Corry JV team evened its record at 3-3 and will be at home next week, playing against the Girard Yellowjackets.
