What a difference a day makes. We played with much more confidence tonight. Our three goals going into the game were to execute offensively, rebound and to not panic. And tonight we did all of those things.
Offensively the girls executed our offensive plan extremely well. Reynolds played a 1-2-2 zone against us and the girls moved the ball and found the open girl for good looks. We scored 13 and 12 points in the first two quarters respectively. And at the half we talked about putting the game away and the girls responded and did that scoring 9 more points to be up 34-14. That allowed us to get everyone into the game. I love watching the girls be aggressive and shooting when they are open or getting to the hoop if overplayed. Kaycee Porter led us in scoring with 12 points including two 3's and followed by Elchynski with 11 points including three 3's. Burlew had a great all around game with 7 points including a 3. And it was great to see Kaygen Rogers and Reagan Porter each score their first varsity points.
We dominated the boards with 32 total rebounds including 17 offensive rebounds. Dyne and Burlew each had 7 rebounds with Dyne having 6 defensive and Burlew 5 offensive. We had 13 assists on a total of 15 FG which is awesome and shows how well the girls moved the ball and found their open teammates.
Our defensive pressure caused Reynolds problems all night. We emphasized on the ball pressure and aggressively denying that first pass and the team really executed. We ended the game with 11 steals, led by Porter and Burlew with 4 and 3 respectively. We also had 21 deflections, led by Elchynski with 8. And only committed 12 fouls for the game. Dahlgren and Hasbrouck did a great job as well when they were in and you can always count on them giving 120%.
After leaving 10 seniors to graduation last year, it has been so much fun to see how much this group has improved since our first scrimmage on Monday to winning our first game on Saturday
We still committed 15 turnovers so we need to keep working on being strong with the ball, using our pivot, and dribbling with a purpose.
Although getting the first win is exciting, we will turn our focus this week to Girard who visits the Beaver Dam on Thursday.
